2012 West Late Harvest Viognier

Extended Description:

Our first dessert wine! The Viognier grapes grow on our creek side estate in Dry Creek Valley. The morning fog next to the creek enhances the crispness of the grapes. The fall of 2012 was sunny and warm and we left some Viognier on the vines a full month after regular harvest. We finally harvested these grapes on October 31 at 30% sugar. Fermentation was done at low temperatues over 6 weeks and stopped when 6% sugar remained. The aroma and taste is full of ripe mango, peach and some pineapple. Despite being a sweet dessert wine it has a fresh acidity of tangerine and a lingering subtle aftertaste.

Serve the Late Harvest Viognier slightly chilled, but not ice cold,  after dinner, by itself or with a dessert. It pairs very well with almond desserts, fruit pies, nutty cheeses and even blue cheese.

375 ml bottle, 6% residual sugar, 15.1% alcohol, TA 5g/L
